Monkeypox or the ampox virus is spreading rapidly all over the world. An alert has been issued regarding this in our country India as well. To deal with this, the central government has also held a high-level meeting with health experts. But have you ever wondered why the word pox is used at the end of monkeypox or such diseases. Today we will tell you the reason behind it.
Monkeypox
The outbreak of monkeypox is spreading rapidly all over the world. A high-level meeting has been held to review its preparations, after which surveillance has been increased. According to the information, the current virus of ampox is more violent and it spreads rapidly. Apart from this, airports and hospitals in the country have been alerted.
What is the treatment
According to the information, there is no specific treatment for it. But it is being said that it will not affect those who have been vaccinated against smallpox. For this, Safdarjung, Ram Manohar Lohia and Lady Hardinge in Delhi have been made nodal hospitals.
Why is the word pox used?
We also call pox as smallpox. In rural areas, smallpox is also said to be the arrival of mother, although medical science has a different opinion on this. Pox in the body means the presence of small and big pimples on the body. It is also called soil rot. Therefore, if any virus in the body causes a disease like pimples and pits, then it is linked to pox. This is the reason why the word pox is used in the names of such viruses.
WHO declared health emergency
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) after monkeypox spread rapidly in many parts of Africa. According to an earlier WHO statement, 99,176 cases and 208 deaths have been reported due to monkeypox in 116 countries globally since 2022. At the same time, there was a significant increase in the cases reported last year and the number of cases reported so far this year has exceeded the total number of last year, including more than 15,600 cases and 537 deaths.
